What’s In A Name?
“Psychologist”
The language can be a little confusing if you’re looking for a “therapist.” Someone who provides therapy or counseling might be called a Counselor, Psychotherapist, or Therapist.
As a Psychologist, I have completed a rigorous path to become a Doctor of Psychology.
I am trained in modalities of psychotherapy, psychological and cognitive assessment, and research production and consumption.
“Psychologist” is a term protected for those who have doctoral degrees (with the exception of School Psychologists). These are either Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) or Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). As a PsyD, primary emphasis was placed on face-to-face clinical care with academia and research secondary.
“Therapist” or “Counselor” is broader, and includes clinicians with Masters degrees.
A “Psychiatrist” is a provider that went through medical school. In modern medicine, Psychiatrists primarily focus on medication management.

“White Stone”
When developing my LLC, I wanted to use a name that was not simply my name. So I began brainstorming words to reflect my intentions for this practice. A story repeatedly returned to my memory — about a white stone and it’s meaning.
In the Biblical book of Revelation, those who overcome are given a white stone with a new name written on it.
Contextually, a white stone is a sign of acquittal - being deemed “not guilty.” In Ancient Greece, jurors would provide a verdict in either a white or dark stone. Not guilty or guilty. In Revelation, when the Spirit gives a white stone, it is contextually symbolic of being acquitted of your guilt. You are innocent, not tarnished, and forgiven.
Secondly, in Revelation, on the white stone given to the overcomer is a new name. A name only the receiver of the stone knows.
For those who come to my practice, one of my deepest hopes is they will leave their guilt behind - feeling worthy, strengthened, and renewed. A sense of newness in their perception of self, others, and the world emerges. That they meet their goals (overcome), and are equipped for continued self-healing and growth as they move forward.
“He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who conquers I will give some of the hidden manna, and I will give him a white stone, with a new name written on the stone that no one knows except the one who receives it.” - Revelation 2:17
